Bahawalpur is located in Punjab Pakistan which lies just south of the Sutlej River in Cholistan region.Bahawalpur was founded in 1748 by Muḥammad Bahāwal Khān and was incorporated as a municipality in 1874. Bahawalpur is situated 90 km from Multan, 420 km from Lahore and around 700 km from the national capital Islamabad. Bahawalpur was the capital of the former princely state of Bahawalpur. The city of Bahawalpur is acclaimed for its kind-hearted people known as the Saraikis.
According to 1998 Census the population of Bahawalpur is 403,408.
